Collections
Collections are the primary way to organize and share files on Merkleshare.
Example collections
Here are some example collections you can explore:
What is a collection?
A collection is a group of files with a name, optional description, and visibility setting. Each collection has a unique URL that you can share with others.
Collections can contain any number of files of any type. Files within a collection maintain their original names and can be downloaded individually or all at once.
Creating a collection
To create a collection, click New Collection from your profile page. You'll need to provide:
- Name — A descriptive title for your collection
- Description (optional) — Additional context about the contents
- Visibility — Who can access the collection
Visibility settings
Collections have three visibility levels:
Public
Visible on your profile page and in search results. Anyone can view and download files.
Unlisted
Not listed on your profile, but anyone with the link can access it. Useful for sharing specific files without making them discoverable.
Private
Only visible to you. Use this for personal backups or work in progress.
Adding files
Files can be added to a collection by dragging and dropping them into the collection page, or by clicking the upload area to browse your computer.
Each file is assigned a unique content hash based on its contents. Identical files are automatically deduplicated.
Sharing collections
Every collection has a shareable URL in the format:
You can also share individual files within a collection. Click on any file to get its direct download link.
Managing collections
From the collection page, you can:
- Add or remove files
- Update the name and description
- Change visibility settings
- Delete the entire collection
Deleting a collection removes it from your profile but doesn't necessarily delete the underlying files from Sia if they're referenced elsewhere.
